We booked online a mere half an hour before our visit after being unable to get into the place we’d planned on eating that night. In the end this turned out to be serendipitous. We weren’t sure what to expect and we worried we were in for a more refined experience than we had planned for. On walking in we were met with a warm welcome by someone who was expecting us. The service was faultless throughout and our waitress was warm, friendly, sensitive and highly skilled. The food was delicious and surprising and exciting. The starters in particular were unexpected. I had the mushroom capaccino and my partner the ham hock (‘amok’). She felt the ham hock was an absolute triumph and one of the loveliest combinations of flavours she’d had on a plate in a long time. Throughout our meal in the beautiful garden we watched locals come and go as well as people who had come to eat. We commented to staff at the end of the meal that we have never seen a place that managed to strike the balance so well of being the local pub, and an exciting eating destination that one would travel to return to time and again. Well done The Bustard Inn. We will be back!
